The Mission of the Williamsburg-James City County Republican Committee is to support the election of Republicans at all levels of government. We accomplish this goal by increasing voter registration, committee membership, and citizen awareness of relevant issues on the local, state and federal levels. To get out the vote on Election Day, we actively grow, maintain, and support an effective and functional precinct organization. Additionally, we are committed to effective fundraising for Republican candidates who ascribe to the Republican Creed.
The Virginia Republican Creed
That the free enterprise system is the most productive supplier of human needs and economic justice; That all individuals are entitled to equal rights, justice, and opportunities and should assume their responsibilities as citizens in a free society; That fiscal responsibility and budgetary restraints must be exercised at all levels of government; That the Federal Government must preserve individual liberty by observing constitutional limitations; That peace is best preserved through a strong national defense; That faith in God, as recognized by our Founding Fathers, is essential to the moral fiber of the Nation.
About the GOP
In today’s rapidly changing and expanding society and economy, the Republican Party fosters stability and personal empowerment. Founded in 1854 by a group of anti-slavery activists, the Republican Party has long championed freedom, promoted civil rights, and encouraged legislation that advances equality. The dynamic organization has evolved throughout the past 150 years while remaining committed to a foundation of individual liberty. Although policies necessarily progress to reflect and confront new challenges, personal responsibility remains a critical element of the Republican philosophy.
Grounded in a commitment to personal freedom and the continued relevance of the Constitution, the Republican Party is dedicated to the belief that each citizen deserves the right to live his or her life free from excessive or intrusive government regulation and taxation. Recognizing that government exists at the will of the people, the Republican Party promotes self-reliance by enabling citizens to exercise individual independence. Such a philosophy commands a wide variety of applications that pertain to contemporary concerns. Necessarily, the umbrella of Republican policies encompasses an array of critical issues ranging from national defense to healthcare to energy. Republican ideology maintains that governmental efficiency and taxpayer benefit are maximized by the reduction of bureaucratic intervention and regulation.
Dedicated to the ideal of self-reliance, Republicans recognize that the greatest sense of personal accomplishment is derived from the uninhibited application of initiative. Likewise, Republicans believe that personal and societal productivity stem from an individual’s motivation and ability. As a result, an entrenched governmental bureaucracy that promotes its own interests and agenda at the expense of the constituents can systemically deter efficiency. Although various regulatory policies may superficially appear beneficial, each program must be viewed through the lens of its ultimate impact. Many seemingly benign restrictions dictate serious consequences that can hinder a citizen’s ability to exercise his or her freedom to make independent choices.
Operating on an underlying premise of optimism, the Republican Party recognizes the innate vitality of the American citizen and strives to promote and perpetuate an innovative society. Doing so necessitates adherence to a concrete set of moral values that underpin positive embodiments of liberty. Likewise, a steadfast dedication to both personal and international sovereignty defines core Republican commitments. A positive outlook coupled with the belief that government is employed by taxpaying United States citizens defines the Republican Party’s responsibility to serve its constituents.
